Support visit to Özgür Özel from Germany

The SPD delegation arrived at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) at 10:30 PM to visit Özel in a show of solidarity with the CHP. Making assessments after the meeting, the CHP Chairman drew attention to the extraordinary nature of the process, recalling the visit previously made by Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) Chairman Ümit Özdağ at 3:00 AM.

Özel made the following statements regarding the visit:

"We had stated that after the coup attempt by the Justice and Development Party against our party through the judiciary, which took place last week within the Republican People's Party, our parliamentary group has become our new headquarters. Regarding this ongoing process, our sister party, the German Social Democratic Party (SPD), paid us a solidarity visit today. Of course, we are experiencing firsts together during these extraordinary times. You had followed Mr. Ümit Özdağ's solidarity visit to our headquarters at 3:00 AM. This time, our sister party came for a solidarity visit at this late hour of the evening, at 10:30 PM."

"SOLIDARITY LETTER" FROM GERMANY

Providing information about the delegation that conducted the visit, Özel stated that the team led by SPD Deputy Chairman Alexander Schweitzer also delivered a letter of solidarity to him.

Thanking the SPD delegation for the "warm friendship and solidarity" they showed, Özel listed the names in the delegation with the following words:

"The delegation is led by Alexander Schweitzer, Deputy Chairman of the SPD. They delivered to me a solidarity letter from our friends, including Lars Klingbeil, who is the Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister in the German government. Katarina Barley, Vice President of the European Parliament. Serdar Yüksel, my dear friend, a Member of Parliament in Germany. Philipp Türmer, Chairman of the SPD Youth Wing. Tobias Cremer, Member of the European Parliament. Experts are also accompanying the delegation. The Turkey Representative of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and its executives from Germany also accompanied the delegation."

Stating that there have been close relations between them and the CHP for years, German Social Democratic Party Deputy Chairman Schweitzer said, "On this occasion, I would like to state that within the framework of these close relations between Germany and Turkey, between Germans and Turks, we have very close relations not only at the political level but also at the social level, because everyone living in Germany has so many Turkish neighbors; therefore, there are very close relations between both countries, both politically and socially. We exchanged views regarding the CHP."
