Supreme Military Council meets this week: One official's term expires, 3 members to attend for the first time

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will chair the Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) meeting, which is planned to be held in the first week of August, to address files regarding promotions, appointments, retirements, and term extensions within the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).

As is tradition, the council's work is expected to begin following the YAŞ members' visit to Anıtkabir, led by Erdoğan.

The YAŞ meeting, to be held at the Presidential Complex under the chairmanship of President Erdoğan, will be attended by council members: Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak, Naval Forces Commander Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, Land Forces Commander General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, and Air Force Commander General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu.

Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak, Land Forces Commander General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, and Air Force Commander General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu will attend the YAŞ meeting for the first time as council members.

ADMIRAL TATLIOĞLU'S TERM IS EXPIRING

The Supreme Military Council meeting will address the promotion and retirement procedures for generals, admirals, and colonels, as well as the extension of their terms of office.

The terms of Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak, Land Forces Commander General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, and Air Force Commander General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu, who took office last year, are ongoing.

The term of Naval Forces Commander Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, which expires this year, is expected to be extended. In the event that Admiral Tatlıoğlu is retired, Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Kadir Yıldız is expected to be appointed as the Naval Forces Commander.

5 NAMES IN LINE FOR PROMOTION TO FULL GENERAL

Appointments to the rank of full general and admiral are also expected to be made at the Supreme Military Council meeting.

Five individuals currently serving as lieutenant generals and vice admirals in the Land, Naval, and Air Forces are in line for promotion.

Accordingly, the promotion of 3rd Army Commander Lieutenant General Veli Tarakcı, Land Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Levent Ergün, 2nd Army Commander Lieutenant General Metin Tokel, Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Kadir Yıldız, and Air Force Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Rafet Dalkıran to the next rank will be evaluated at the YAŞ meeting.

The decisions of the YAŞ, whose work is expected to be completed in one day, will be put into effect following the approval of President Erdoğan.
