The meeting addressed Turkey-Syria relations and issues regarding the terrorist organization PKK/YPG.
It was noted that no prior information had been provided regarding the meeting held at Dolmabahçe.
STATEMENT RELEASED
According to a statement from the Directorate of Communications, the meeting covered bilateral relations between Turkey and Syria, as well as regional and global developments.
During the meeting, President Erdoğan expressed his belief that much brighter and more peaceful days await Syria, and stated that Turkey will continue to stand by Syria as it has done until now.
Erdoğan told Shara, who made his first visit to Turkey following the decision by the US and EU to lift sanctions on Syria, that Turkey welcomes the commencement of the lifting of sanctions, and that it is important for Syria's territorial integrity to be preserved and for the country and its army to be managed from a single center.
Stating that Israel's occupation and aggression on Syrian territory are unacceptable, Erdoğan noted that Turkey will continue to oppose this on every platform.
Erdoğan expressed that bilateral relations and cooperation between Turkey and Syria will continue to develop in every field, especially in energy, defense, and transportation, and that Turkey will continue to fulfill the requirements of neighborly and brotherly law as it has done to date.
During the meeting, Syrian President Shara expressed his gratitude to our President for his critical support and efforts in the lifting of the sanctions.
