Surprise October 29 decision from the US
John Muns, the mayor of Plano, one of the major cities in the US state of Texas, has declared October 29 as "Republic of Türkiye Day" in the city.
A celebration night was organized by the "Turkish Society of Texas (TURKSOTX)" association, which represents the Turkish community in Texas, to mark the 101st anniversary of the Republic.
During the night, where Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm, artists Ferhat Göçer, Müjde Kızılkan, and the İskender Paydaş Orchestra took the stage.
In the event, which also featured harmandalı and zeybek dance performances, elementary school student Anastasia Nassar recited all verses of the National Anthem from memory.
Furthermore, Plano Mayor Muns, who attended the event, announced that he had declared October 29 as "Republic of Türkiye Day" in the city.
The declaration, published with Muns's signature, stated that the Turkish-American community plays an important role in the diversity of Plano.
The declaration stated, "I, John Muns, Mayor of Plano, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, October 29, as Republic of Türkiye Day in Plano and, on this occasion, invite all citizens to join me and the Plano City Council in celebrating this centennial anniversary."
