Felicity Party Chairman Mahmut Arıkan visited former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is being held in Edirne Prison. In a written statement following the meeting, Arıkan noted that they had comprehensively discussed Turkey's fundamental political and legal issues, stating, "We believe that he will make very important contributions to our social consensus, solidarity, and brotherhood efforts within the framework of democratic and legitimate politics."
"DIALOGUE IS OF VITAL IMPORTANCE AGAINST POLARIZATION"
Sharing a written statement through the Felicity Party Headquarters after the meeting, Mahmut Arıkan expressed that they reached a common understanding on many issues with Demirtaş. Criticizing the current political tone in Turkey, Arıkan made the following assessments:
"We were pleased to observe that we share a common conviction that, against the climate of polarization and factionalism into which our country is being dragged, the ground for dialogue must be kept alive and expanded under all conditions and opportunities, and that the search for a comprehensive consensus that will put an end to injustices is of vital importance. Turkey is now tired of daily petty squabbles and the language of tension and conflict."
"DEMİRTAŞ IS AN IMPORTANT ACTOR, OUR CONTACTS WILL CONTINUE"
Touching upon Selahattin Demirtaş's role in Turkish politics and his long-standing detention process, the Felicity Party Chairman emphasized justice and announced that the dialogue process would continue:
"Mr. Demirtaş is an important actor and political figure in terms of our country's politics. We believe that he will make very important contributions to our social consensus, solidarity, and brotherhood efforts within the framework of democratic and legitimate politics."
"Detentions that continue for years without a final verdict from the courts not only weaken trust in justice but also damage trust in the political institution."
Arıkan added that these humanitarian and political contacts and mutual exchanges of views with Demirtaş would continue without interruption in the coming period.
