Suspect arrested for alleged fraud via dog sale advertisements

Teams from the Bayburt Police Department's Public Security Branch launched an operation against individuals suspected of committing fraud by posting dog sale advertisements online, following a report from a citizen.

"THEY TRIED TO GAIN TRUST BY SHOWING IDENTIFICATION"

As a result of investigations following the report, it was discovered that the suspects posted dog sale advertisements on social media, promised to ship the dogs by bus on the same day, and gained the victims' trust by sending documents such as photos of identification cards before requesting payment. Once they received the money, they blocked the victims' phone numbers to complete the fraud.

Teams detained the suspects, identified as İ.A. and Ç.T., at their addresses in Istanbul and İzmir.

The suspects were brought to Bayburt as part of the investigation and were referred to the courthouse following police processing.

"HE HAD BEEN WANTED FOR 6 YEARS"

İ.A., who was determined to have been wanted for 6 years with a finalized prison sentence of 20 years and 8 months for similar crimes, was arrested by the presiding judge. Ç.T. was released under judicial control measures.

"THEY CUT OFF CONTACT AFTER RECEIVING THE MONEY"

It was alleged that İ.A. used a mobile phone line registered to a foreign national to post dog sale advertisements on social media accounts and cut off contact with buyers after the money was transferred to their bank accounts.

It was also claimed that Ç.T. attempted to arrange IBAN information for buyers through various means.
