Suspect who slit his ex-wife's throat and waited by her side arrested

Antalya’s Döşemealtı district was the scene of an incident yesterday evening where Abdülkadir K. (48), a prison guard working in the Dinar district of Afyonkarahisar, killed his ex-wife Ayten Çağıran (44) by slitting her throat.

Following the incident, the suspect, who did not allow anyone to approach and checked to see if Çağıran was still alive, was taken into custody by police teams arriving at the scene.

Antalya Police Department Homicide Bureau teams, who took the statement of Abdülkadir K., determined that he had arrived in Antalya from Afyonkarahisar on June 19, the last day of Eid al-Adha, and had been following his ex-wife for 4 days.

"I REGRET IT, THIS HAPPENED IN A MOMENT OF ANGER"

It was learned that in his initial statement, Abdülkadir K. said he came to Antalya to reconcile with his ex-wife and killed Ayten Çağıran during an argument that broke out when she rejected his reconciliation offer.

The suspect, who said, "I regret it, this happened in a moment of anger," was found to have a criminal record for "intentional injury," "property damage," and "ill-treatment." It was also learned that during their marriage, Çağıran had obtained multiple restraining orders against him and that the reason for their divorce was the violence inflicted by Abdülkadir K.

After his procedures at the police station, the suspect was brought to the courthouse and was arrested by the Duty Magistrate Judge and sent to prison.
