Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced that he looks forward to meeting his Hungarian counterpart, Viktor Orban, in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, at an appropriate time to discuss his country's NATO membership.

In a statement published on the government's website, Kristersson thanked Orban, who had invited him to Budapest to hold talks regarding Sweden's NATO membership.

Stating that he has accepted the invitation, Kristersson addressed Orban with the following words:

"I look forward to meeting with you in Budapest, Hungary, at an appropriate time. We will also have the opportunity to meet at the European Union (EU) leaders' summit to be held in Brussels on February 1. The ratification of Sweden's NATO membership in the Hungarian Parliament will also help our bilateral relations to develop and be placed on a solid foundation."

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban had stated the following in a post on the social media platform X on January 23:

"Today I sent an invitation letter to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to visit Hungary for the purpose of negotiating Sweden's accession to NATO."
