Answering questions from members of parliament at the Planning and Budget Committee, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler made statements regarding the lieutenants who took the oath with swords. Emphasizing that the disciplinary board will make the decision, Minister Güler said in his statement, "The disciplinary process will be carried out, there will be no compromise on discipline, and there can be no 'buts,' 'ifs,' or 'howevers' regarding indiscipline."
Minister Güler's statement on the matter is as follows:
"To understand the issue, the process must be evaluated correctly. It is not an attitude that ignores Atatürk and the spiritual legacy he left behind, but an examination of the disciplinary offense that occurred. Crossing swords, reciting the oath, and saying 'We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal' is not the issue; it is an act of intentional indiscipline despite repeated orders and warnings.
None of the lieutenants under disciplinary investigation were asked why they said 'We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal' at the moment they drew their swords. It was organized as a group without the permission of superiors, the press was invited to ensure the action was known, and the chain of command was bypassed.
It is impossible to ignore this. The disciplinary board will make the decision. The disciplinary process will be carried out, there will be no compromise on discipline, and there can be no 'buts,' 'ifs,' or 'howevers' regarding indiscipline.
Grounds were prepared for the erosion of the TAF; it is important for everyone to be careful and not to give credence to disinformation so that our army is not undermined."
