Tanju Özcan and CHP mayors acquitted in presidential insult case

The incident took place in Bolu on March 21 of last year. According to the information obtained, a march was organized in Bolu following the judicial process regarding Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and subsequent developments.

A lawsuit was filed against Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, CHP Bolu Provincial Chair Tahsin Mert Karagöz, and CHP Central District Chair Çetin Uç, who participated in the march, on charges of "repeatedly insulting the President" based on the statements they made during the march.

The non-detained defendants Tanju Özcan, Tahsin Mert Karagöz, and Çetin Uç, along with their lawyers, attended the final hearing of the case held at the Bolu 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance.

Presenting their opinion at the hearing, the Public Prosecutor stated that the crime attributed to the defendants was proven and requested their punishment.

Özcan, Karagöz, and Uç, who provided their defense, denied the accusations and requested their acquittal.

The court panel ruled that the words in question fell within the scope of freedom of expression and decided to acquit the defendants.
