Tanju Özcan deletes that post

Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcanshared a video on his social media accounts that combined a scene from the TV series 'İnci Taneleri', featuring actress Hazar Ergüçlü dancing in a nightclub, with aerial footage of Bolu.

Referring to the 'Dilber' character dancing in the scene, Özcan wrote: "I sold the field I inherited from my father and bought you a house in Bolu. We welcome you to Bolu, the most beautiful city in Turkey." Özcan deleted the post after it caused a stir on social media.

STATEMENT FROM TANJU ÖZCAN

In a statement following the backlash, Özcan said he was using humor to promote Bolu by utilizing a popular scene.

Özcan's statement is as follows:

"To those criticizing the video I just shared;

This scene was used heavily in the promotional trailer for the series 'İnci Taneleri'. It received millions of shares. I, too, turned this into an opportunity politically and used it in a humorous way to promote the city. In my opinion, those who are narrow-minded should look not at the artist, but at the footage showing how beautiful Bolu has become after the artist. I am not a classic politician. If I am loved in Turkey, it is for this reason. I have made such posts before by highlighting the humorous side of politics, and I will continue to do so.

That series is a legal production, and this is its trailer. This trailer has been circulating everywhere for weeks. The series is also on air and is being watched by millions. I have the utmost respect for our female sisters. Everyone knows me. By sharing a widely watched clip in Turkey, I promoted my city by emphasizing what a beautiful city Bolu is. Some malicious people are twisting this humorous promotional video in a perverse direction. Those who do this are empty-headed. They should look at what follows, not the artist. They should see how beautiful a city Bolu has become."
