Tax to be imposed on 'custom-built computers'
TRT is preparing to levy a banderole fee on pre-assembled computer systems. If the regulation submitted to Parliament is accepted, computer prices are expected to increase by at least 20 percent.
TRT is preparing to increase the 4 percent banderole fee applied to computers and tablets to 20 percent.
According to a report in Sözcü, if the regulation, for which the draft work has been completed and submitted to Parliament, is accepted, a 20 percent banderole fee will be levied on products known among the public as 'custom-built computers' and sold under the name of ready-made systems.
Technology content creator Recep Baltaş stated that the regulation in question would mean computer prices will increase by at least 20 percent, adding, "TRT wants to collect a banderole fee from custom-built computers as well. In other words, a 'TV tax' will be collected from cases that do not even have a radio receiver inside! It is truly unbelievable..."
