Grand National Assembly of Turkey decisions published in the Official Gazette
The decisions of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) regarding the extension of the mandate for Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) naval elements to combat piracy, armed robbery, and maritime terrorism in certain regions, as well as the election for a Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) membership, have been published in the Official Gazette.
The decision published in the Official Gazette states that the mandate for Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) naval elements to operate in the Gulf of Aden, off the coast of Somalia, in the Arabian Sea, and adjacent regions—excluding the territorial waters of regional countries—has been extended for one year, effective from February 2, 2024, for the purpose of combating piracy, armed robbery, and maritime terrorism.
The decision notes that the deployment of TSK elements is necessary to effectively combat piracy, armed robbery, and maritime terrorism in the aforementioned regions.
DECISION REGARDING THE ELECTION FOR RTÜK MEMBERSHIP
In accordance with Article 35 of the Law on the Establishment and Broadcasting Services of Radio and Television, the TBMM decision regarding the election for a vacant seat at RTÜK was also included in the Official Gazette.
The decision states that Ahmet Can Buğday was elected as an RTÜK member as a result of the election held during the 50th session of the General Assembly on January 17, for a seat allocated to the IYI Party Group.
Furthermore, according to the TBMM decisions, the mandate of the parliamentary research commission established to identify the problems in the fisheries and aquaculture sector and the measures to be taken has been extended by 1 month, effective from January 17, 2024.
