Temperature record broken: Hottest June of the last 53 years

Average temperatures in Turkey last month were recorded as the hottest June in the last 53 years.

According to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, average temperatures last month were around seasonal normals around Ağrı's Doğubeyazıt, while they were above seasonal normals in other regions of the country.

The average temperature for June in Turkey, which was measured at 21.8 degrees between 1991 and 2020, was recorded at 25.4 degrees last month, 3.6 degrees above its normal.

In temperature analyses, according to comparisons made since 1971, June 2024 was recorded as the hottest June of the last 53 years.

In June, the lowest temperature was recorded in Erzurum at 1.6 degrees, and the highest temperature was recorded in Şanlıurfa's Ceylanpınar at 47.8 degrees.

TEMPERATURES BY REGION

In the Marmara Region, average temperatures were measured above seasonal normals across the region. The region's average temperature for June was 25.3 degrees. The lowest and highest temperatures in the region were recorded in Balıkesir. The city saw the lowest temperature in the region at 11.2 degrees and the highest at 41.4 degrees.

In the Aegean Region, average temperatures were above seasonal normals across the region. In the region, where the average temperature for June 2024 was 28 degrees, the lowest temperature was observed in Gediz at 8.1 degrees, and the highest temperature was observed in Aydın at 44.6 degrees.

In the Mediterranean Region, average temperatures were recorded above seasonal normals across the region. The region's average temperature last month was measured at 28.2 degrees. In the Mediterranean, the lowest temperature was recorded in Kahramanmaraş's Göksun at 11 degrees, and the highest temperature was recorded in Antalya's Manavgat at 44.7 degrees.

In the Central Anatolia Region, average temperatures were seen above seasonal normals across the region. In the region, where the average temperature for June 2024 was measured at 23.4 degrees, the lowest temperature was determined in Sivas's Kangal at 2.7 degrees, and the highest temperature was determined in Ankara's Polatlı at 39.3 degrees.

In the Black Sea Region, average temperatures were also above seasonal normals. While the region's average temperature for June was 22.8 degrees, the lowest temperature in the region was measured in Bayburt at 4.8 degrees, and the highest temperature was measured in Düzce at 39.7 degrees.

In the Eastern Anatolia Region, average temperatures were observed around seasonal normals around Doğubeyazıt and above seasonal normals in other parts of the region. In the region, where average temperatures were determined to be 21.8 degrees last month, the lowest temperature was observed in Erzurum at 1.6 degrees, and the highest temperature was observed in Elazığ's Palu at 40.1 degrees.

In the Southeastern Anatolia Region, average temperatures were seen above seasonal normals across the region. The region's average temperature for June was 31.1 degrees. The lowest temperature in the region was recorded in Batman at 13 degrees, and the highest temperature was recorded in Ceylanpınar at 47.8 degrees.
