Tension between MHP and DEM Party over 'Kurdish' speech: Microphone turned off

The repercussions of the process that began with the call made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli and continued with the terrorist organization PKK's decision to disband are ongoing.

Along with this entire process, a notable incident took place in the TBMM today.

While DEM Party Group Deputy Chairperson Gülistan Koçyiğit was speaking in the TBMM, she began speaking in Kurdish after saying, "A people's language is their honor; we will raise our struggle for a dignified life to the end and build this life together."

As she spoke in Kurdish, Koçyiğit's microphone was turned off. After a short silence, the sound was turned back on, and Koçyiğit reacted to the situation.

Koçyiğit said, "Mr. Speaker, honorable deputies, you turned off my microphone again; it did not go unnoticed, let it be recorded. I want to reiterate the hope that these days will be left behind. I hope that one day, when we speak Kurdish in this parliament..."

At this moment, upon the microphone being turned off again, MHP's Deputy Speaker of the TBMM Celal Adan told those at the dais, "Turn the microphone back on."
