Tension between police and MPs: CHP deputies denied entry to Esenyurt Municipality while AKP members are allowed in

The appointment of a trustee to the CHP-run Esenyurt Municipality remains a key item on the agenda.

CHP municipal council members and deputies arrived in front of the Esenyurt Municipality building.

While the municipality was placed under a police blockade, the CHP members were not allowed into the building.

Tension arose between the CHP members, who demanded to see a written order for the blockade, and the police.

According to T24, CHP Istanbul Deputy Suat Özçağdaş reacted to the police, saying, "Just like on July 15, citizens have stood up against state officials acting unlawfully!" Özçağdaş asked, "Why are AK Party members inside? You are not the police of the AK Party!"

"OUR COUNTERPART IS NOT THE GOVERNOR, BUT NUMAN KURTULMUŞ"

Ali Gökçek, one of the CHP deputies in front of Esenyurt Municipality, called TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş to establish contact. Gökçek stated, "The person who should protect the rights of deputies is the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. If a deputy is being obstructed here, our counterpart will not be the governor, but Numan Kurtulmuş."
