“I spoke through Nurullah. Certain parts of this conversation were cut, just like in the December 17-25 period. The conversation was entirely an effort to persuade Sertçelik to return to Turkey. The names he mentioned were not uttered by me. He talked about these issues without me asking. Since we wanted to bring him back, I used expressions to the effect of “Okay, come, we’ll talk” to brush it off. My goal was to make him feel comfortable and ensure he came.

Sertçelik’s accusations are aimed at diluting the operation. By mentioning names not involved in the investigation, he aimed to have the file closed and to ensure the release of ABK and the organization members. It is aimed at having us removed from duty because the organization has many connections. He said that police officers have contacts with ABK, and that former Ankara Deputy Police Chief Alp Arslan and police officers in the Organized Crime Bureau demanded bribes. It will be seen that the operation has connections to judicial, police, and some important figures.

I think the individual has been captured, forced to share, and that the organization will harm his family and himself, and that they will cast suspicion on me and my colleagues. The work we carry out is generally known by our superiors.”

THOSE TWO NAMES MENTIONED IN THE TESTIMONY

In the voice recording published by Sertçelik, the phrases “You know those two names you mentioned”, “You know there were two issues, there were different names”, “I spoke with the necessary places about them, they spoke with the necessary places, they said ‘Let the names be mentioned, no problem’” were recalled. He was asked, “Does this statement belong to you? Who are you referring to with these two people?”

Demircan said the following:

“The statements belong to me. I held the conversation to persuade Sertçelik. My goal was to get his testimony. Because he had previously decided not to come. The two names referred to are Halkbank General Manager Osman Arslan and our former Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ. I did not ask questions about these issues, I did not pronounce the names. He told me about these issues himself. I just listened. These are sentences I formed to persuade him, to ensure he had no question marks in his mind, and to put him at ease. He was the one who always talked about the names. When he mentioned the two names, I tried to brush it off. He told me 'These are bigger names'. I conducted the entire conversation to ensure there were no gaps or open ends in the ABK file.”
