Testimony of suspect who martyred police officer Şeyda Yılmaz revealed: 'I didn't see they were police'

In Ümraniye, Istanbul, Yunus Emre Geçti, who was apprehended for theft and has a criminal record of 26 offenses, seized a police officer's weapon and opened fire. Officer Yılmaz, who was critically wounded in the incident, was martyred. The testimony of the arrested Yunus Emre Geçti has been revealed.

According to a report by the Sabah newspaper, the perpetrator stated in his testimony that he did not realize the people he shot were police officers, and that he fired 2 shots toward a barrel after seeing the tip of a weapon belonging to Şeyda Yılmaz. Claiming he found the weapon on the ground, Geçti said, "I did not commit a crime intentionally."

The testimony of the killer, who requested to be tried without arrest, is as follows:

"I was using drugs until 5 months ago. Before that, I was using bonzai and cannabis. The police took me to the Dudullu police station. I was sitting on the street in the Ihlamurkuyu neighborhood. Then we went to the police station. They had us perform an identification regarding the theft case. My friend named Doğukan Ayvaz Ömür was with me. They took our statements. Then the police told me I would have to wait. My mother, father, grandfather, and grandmother arrived. Then I heard my mother's screams. I jumped over the wall of the police station. When I jumped, I saw my father. My father ran away when he saw me. I went out from there to help my mother. Since our statements had been taken, I did not think I was escaping.

'THEY ROBBED ME'

I went toward my house by a regular minibus. I ran into my rivals on the old tax office road. They attacked me. Enes Polat, Eray Polat, Ahmet Polat, and Azat Polat. They attacked me and took the phone and money from my pocket. They robbed me.

I am dating a girl named Elanur. She is the sister of these individuals. At that moment, a civilian car arrived there. While I was being beaten by these individuals, I saw a weapon on the ground. I was shot in my left arm. I heard my mother's scream that I had been shot.

'I DID NOT TAKE A WEAPON FROM ANYONE, I SAW IT ON THE GROUND'

There was a barrel there, and I saw the tip of a weapon from there. I did not see that they were police. They had arrived in a civilian vehicle. I only realized they were wearing uniforms after watching the footage from the cameras. I fired 2 shots toward that barrel. I left the weapon there and walked toward my house. Then the night watchmen saw me. I surrendered to them. I did not even realize there was a woman in front of me. I did not wound the other injured people either.

I did not take a weapon from anyone. I saw it on the ground. I do not accept the accusations. I did not commit a crime intentionally. I request to be tried without arrest."
