Testimony of the hitman in the murder of Can Polat, bodyguard to Dilan and Engin Polat, revealed: The target was someone else

Naming the Daltonlar gang in his statement, Altun said, "I followed the Polat family on Instagram and conducted reconnaissance at the places they visited. If I had encountered them, I was going to spray them with gunfire in a way that would not kill Engin Polat." he said.

Last week, Can Polat, the cousin and close bodyguard of social media influencers Dilan and Engin Polat, lost his life in an armed attack in Çeşme, İzmir.

According to a report by Habertürk, the hitman, Altun, explained that he had made contact with the Daltonlar gang in April.

Stating that he commented "How do we join these gangs?" under a post and then made contact with an account he remembers as "DltGolfo34," Altun said, "At first, they sent a message saying, 'Who are you? Tell us your story.' I talked about my work, my life, being unemployed, and my poor financial situation. The next day, they said, 'Okay, you're clean,' and told me I had been accepted into the Daltonlar gang."

"I FOLLOWED THE POLATS ON INSTAGRAM"

Stating that he first killed a person in Konya for 100,000 liras, Altun continued: "Golfo told me that the task was to shoot Engin Polat. I had heard of Polat on social media. He informed me of the places Polat frequented. I would go to the addresses on certain days to conduct reconnaissance. I was also following the stories he posted on Instagram."

"I WAS GOING TO SPRAY HIM WITHOUT KILLING HIM"

If I had encountered him, I was going to spray Engin Polat with gunfire in a way that wouldn't kill him. Golfo gave me the instruction that I absolutely had to shoot Engin Polat that night. I went to the hotel called VOM ALAÇATI, where Engin Polat was staying, for reconnaissance, and when I saw the vehicle that Dilan Polat had shared in her Instagram story in front of the hotel, I realized they would be staying another day. I told Golfo that I couldn't see Engin Polat, but that I saw Can Polat. He gave me the instruction by saying, 'Shoot whoever is near him.' Before arriving at the hotel, I prepared the weapon for firing at a quiet spot and had set the safety catch. The vehicle moved forward a bit and stopped again. I raised the weapon and approached from the right side of the vehicle. I panicked and pulled the trigger toward the leg area. Can Polat threw himself to the ground at that moment, and I fired 2 shots aiming at his legs, then ran away from there.

"I FELT ILL WHEN I HEARD HE HAD DIED"

When I read the news that Can Polat had died, I felt ill. I sat down on a street I don't remember. Subsequently, motorcycle police teams came up to me, asked for my ID, and caught me. While I was talking to Golfo before the incident, he had promised me, 'After you commit the act, we will smuggle you to Istanbul.' After the incident, I could not get any news from him at all. No payment was made to me to shoot Engin Polat. My main goal was to wound Engin Polat by shooting him with a gun. However, I carried out the act against Can Polat upon Golfo's instruction. I had no intent to kill."
