Thai woman who poisoned friend to death sentenced to death as a serial killer
Thai serial killer Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, who was on trial for the murder of 14 people between 2015 and 2023, has appeared in court for the first time.
A female defendant on trial in Bangkok, Thailand, for the murder of 14 people has been sentenced to death for poisoning her friend with cyanide.
According to a report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), 36-year-old serial killer Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn appeared in court in Bangkok for the first time to face charges related to 14 murders and 80 other crimes.
It was determined that the woman killed her victims by adding cyanide to their food, and it was reported that she committed the murders between 2015 and 2023.
In the case concerning the first of these murders, the court sentenced Sararat to death for poisoning and killing her friend, Siriporn Khanwong.
DEFRAUDED THEN KILLED
Sararat, who was addicted to online gambling, was accused of defrauding her victims of thousands of dollars before poisoning them to death.
Following the determination that Siriporn had been poisoned to death, police also uncovered evidence related to Sararat's previous murders.
Among those who lost their lives are 2 police officers.
Meanwhile, in the case regarding the murder of Siriporn, Sararat's ex-husband, a police lieutenant colonel, was sentenced to 16 months in prison, and her lawyer was sentenced to 2 years in prison for their roles in the crime.
Following the death sentence, the victim Siriporn's mother stated outside the court, "The court's decision is fair. I want to tell my daughter that I miss her very much and that justice has been served."
