That name has been appointed to the Presidency of Religious Affairs

With a decree published in the Official Gazette, Istanbul Mufti Prof. Dr. Safi Arpaguş has been appointed as the President of Religious Affairs, replacing Ali Erbaş, whose term has expired.

That name has been appointed to the Presidency of Religious Affairs

According to the appointment decision published in the Official Gazette, the Ali Erbaş era at the Presidency of Religious Affairs has come to an end. Istanbul Provincial Mufti Prof. Dr. Safi Arpaguş has been appointed to lead the institution.

With the decision published under the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Istanbul Provincial Mufti Prof. Dr. Safi Arpaguş has been appointed as the President of Religious Affairs.

Additionally, with the same decision, Murat Konan was removed from his post as the Kırşehir Provincial Director at the Ministry of Family and Social Services.

Nurettin Kesler was appointed as the Provincial Director of Niğde, and Mehmet Uçar was appointed as the Provincial Director of Sakarya.

İbrahim Özçelik was brought in as the Deputy General Manager of Insurance Premiums at the Social Security Institution, a position that had been vacant.

At the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Cengiz Arabacı was appointed as the Deputy General Manager of Incentive Implementation and Foreign Capital.

WHO IS SAFİ ARPAGUŞ?

Prof. Dr. Safi Arpaguş was born in 1967 in the Gümüşhacıköy district of Amasya. He completed his education at the Gümüşhacıköy Imam-Hatip High School in 1985 and graduated from the Marmara University Faculty of Theology in 1990.

He began his academic career in 1992 as a Research Assistant at the Marmara University Faculty of Theology.

He completed his Master's degree in 1994 and his Doctorate in 2001.

He became an Associate Professor in 2008 and a Professor in 2014.

Between 2011 and 2021, he served as the Deputy Dean of the Marmara University Faculty of Theology.

He was appointed as the Istanbul Mufti by the Presidential decree dated October 15, 2021 (Decision 2021/498) in accordance with Article 38 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547.

He is a faculty member and Head of the Department of Sufism at the Marmara University Faculty of Theology.

His areas of study include the history, concepts, and institutions of Islamic Sufism.
