The background of the service crisis: A strike emerges behind Marmaray's 'general maintenance'

In a statement issued by Marmaray, it was reported that a temporary adjustment had been made to train services. The statement included the following: “Due to general maintenance work, our trains operating between Pendik and Ataköy will run between Söğütlüçeşme and Zeytinburnu for 1 (one) day on July 17, 2025.” It was noted that services on the Gebze-Halkalı line continue as normal.

However, it has been learned that a strike decision lies behind the aforementioned adjustment. Public sector train conductors working at Marmaray carried out a one-day work stoppage.

While reactions continue regarding the 17 percent wage increase offered to public workers, the decision to stop work was taken as part of the action plan of Türk-İş. Workers voiced their demands by chanting slogans on the platforms.

Public workers are demanding a minimum daily wage of 1800 TL, a 50 percent plus 25 percent raise for 2025, and a 10 percent welfare share.
