Cyprus veteran retired Staff Colonel Oğuz Kalelioğlu recounted the 30-day resistance and the heroism displayed by a corporal.

Retired Staff Colonel Oğuz Kalelioğlu explained that the corporal risked his life to hit enemy positions with a rocket launcher, and when they later wanted to reward that corporal, he did not come forward, saying, "It's nothing, commander, we did our duty, as long as we are alive."
