Cyprus veteran retired Staff Colonel Oğuz Kalelioğlu recounted the 30-day resistance and the heroism displayed by a corporal.

Retired Staff Colonel Oğuz Kalelioğlu explained that the corporal risked his life to hit enemy positions with a rocket launcher, and when they later wanted to reward that corporal, he did not come forward, saying, "It's nothing, commander, we did our duty, as long as we are alive."

Cyprus veteran retired Staff Colonel Oğuz Kalelioğlu received the TAF Superior Courage and Self-Sacrifice Medal, the Republic of Turkey State Medal of Distinguished Service, various writing badges, and the Cyprus War Medal for his achievements.

Famagusta hero Oğuz Kalelioğlu was targeted due to his determination in the Cyprus cause. He was arrested in the February 28 case opened by FETÖ members and served 18 months in prison. In the case that concluded about three years ago, 62 people, including Kalelioğlu, were acquitted, while 13 high-ranking commanders received sentences.
