The counterfeit alcohol nightmare continues

The counterfeit alcohol nightmare continues

Deaths caused by counterfeit alcohol in Turkey have reached alarming levels. According to data from the Ministry of Interior, 152 people have lost their lives as a result of consuming counterfeit alcohol in 2025. A total of 445 thousand 16 liters of counterfeit alcohol were seized in 780 operations conducted nationwide targeting the production and trade of counterfeit alcohol.

While 983 people were taken into custody during the operations, 50 of them were arrested, and 75 people were released under judicial control conditions. Authorities state that inspections against counterfeit alcohol have been increased and are warning citizens to be cautious.

HOW TO IDENTIFY COUNTERFEIT ALCOHOL?

Experts state that it is difficult to identify counterfeit alcohol solely by its taste or smell, and suggest paying attention to the following points:

-Avoid open bottles and products without excise stamps.

-Check the label and cap, and report the product to the competent authorities in suspicious cases.

-Be cautious against alcoholic beverages sold at prices much lower than the market rate.
