The cycle of debt in municipalities continues: 'We learned that we also have hidden debts'
Alaattin Köseler, the new mayor of Beykoz Municipality, which passed from the AKP to the CHP, has made a statement regarding the municipality's debts.
Alaattin Köseler, the new mayor of Beykoz Municipality, which passed from the AKP to the CHP in the local elections, made a statement following a one-month review of the institution's financial structure after taking over the municipality.
In a video statement he posted on the social media platform X, Köseler noted the following:
"OUR HIDDEN DEBTS..."
“I am here to inform you accurately about our municipal services. Rest assured; we have not stopped, terminated, or disrupted any of our municipality's services to date. We have not canceled any sports events. We have not cut social aid. We have not laid off any of our personnel. As of today, we have deposited the outstanding salaries and social assistance payments of the service personnel in our culture and sports directorates into their accounts. As you may recall, the objections filed against the local elections and the subsequent 9-day holiday delayed our takeover process by 15 days. During this period, we saw that Beykoz Municipality's debts from the previous term are increasing day by day due to the interest burden and uncalculated severance pay. We also learned that we have hidden debts remaining from works carried out without tenders. This debt burden, which does not stem from our activities as the new administration, could reach 3 billion liras by the end of the year if the broken existing financial structure is not corrected.
"WE WILL MANAGE IT TRANSPARENTLY"
However, do not worry at all. We have immediately rolled up our sleeves and started working for sound and transparent financial management. We are taking care to use our resources economically and according to their order of importance. We stand behind all the promises we made to you during our election campaign. With your support, we will implement them all over time. We will manage Beykoz with you and in a transparent manner. Know that; our work and our focus is Beykoz.”
I have shared our municipality's first month and financial structure with you with a transparent management approach. pic.twitter.com/rJioCDL2PP
