The economy hits Necip Fazıl too: Necip Fazıl Kısakürek museum to close
It has been announced that the Necip Fazıl Kısakürek museum, established in Istanbul in 2019, will be closed due to economic reasons.
The Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Culture and Research Foundation has decided to close the "Necip Fazıl Museum," which it established in Istanbul in 2019, due to economic reasons.
The museum will welcome its final visitors in May.
The museum houses Kısakürek's personal belongings and works written about him.
''THE CURRENT ECONOMIC DIFFICULTIES IN OUR COUNTRY...''
According to a report in the Türkiye Gazetesi, known for its proximity to the government, the statement issued by the Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Culture and Research Foundation emphasized that they were "hurt" and included the following remarks:
"We compiled and scanned his manuscripts with great hope. We cataloged 22 thousand pages of original documents. We brought the items that still carry his scent from our homes for you. We collected and archived everything anyone said or wrote with great excitement. However, the current economic difficulties in our country have left neither the value of the book nor the importance of the research. For this reason, we are hurt. We have decided to end this journey we started with big dreams. We will take our belongings back to our homes and place our books back in our libraries."
"WE HAVE REACHED A POINT WHERE WE CANNOT EVEN COVER THE RENT"
Şeyma Kısakürek Sönmezocak, Chairperson of the Board of the Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Culture and Research Foundation and the poet's granddaughter, stated, "The research center and museum were not deemed worthy of any support even at its opening five years ago. We were continuing operations with our own means. Due to a 300 percent rent increase, we have reached a point where we cannot even cover the building's rent. As his grandchildren, we did everything we could. This shame does not belong to us."
