The 'executioner' polemic between CHP and DEM Party grows! 'If you are against the process...'
Speaking at his party's group meeting, DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan reacted sharply to CHP leader Özgür Özel's remarks, 'Do not fall in love with your executioner.'
CHP leader Özgür Özel had stated in his speech at his party's 39th Ordinary Congress, "I invite everyone not to fall victim to Stockholm Syndrome, and not to fall in love with the executioner we barely escaped from yesterday."
Following these remarks, reactions from the DEM Party side against the CHP rose one after another.
After the response from DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, who said, "Using the metaphor of falling in love with one's executioner or Stockholm syndrome for us is, to put it mildly, a mental lapse. We are the representatives of a revolutionary, socialist, and patriotic tradition that has resisted all pressures throughout history without getting tired, without giving up, and without wavering," Tuncer Bakırhan also joined the debate.
In his speech at his party's group meeting, Bakırhan said, "Özel tells us 'do not fall in love with your executioner.' Our people want to live in peace, equality, and freedom. We know the executioner very well. We know the executioners very well from our cemeteries, our unsolved murders, and the dungeons where we resisted. Let no one approach this memory with cheap metaphors. If we are going to open the executioner's ledger, you will all come out in debt. If you are against the resolution of this issue, state your position clearly."
