Procedures are ongoing at the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for the bodies of Mesut Coşkunöz (68), his son Hilmi Coşkunöz (38), and his niece Mine Elmas (35), who lost their lives in the fire that broke out in the Alaçatı neighborhood of Çeşme, İzmir.

While the families were waiting for the procedures to be completed, it was observed that Simay Coşkunöz, the wife of Hilmi Coşkunöz, who also lost his life in the fire, was injured in her legs.

It was stated that the bodies would be handed over to the families after the autopsy procedures and would be laid to rest following the funeral prayer to be held at the Buca Adatepe Mosque during the afternoon prayer time.

HEARTBREAKING DETAILS ABOUT THE TRAGEDY

On the other hand, new details about the incident have emerged. It was learned that there were 8 people in the 4 houses where the relatives lived during the fire, and that when the flames and smoke threatened the houses, Mine Elmas helped her two children and her husband, as well as Simay Coşkunöz and her child, reach a safe area.

It was noted that Elmas, who herself had a heart condition, went to the side of Mesut Coşkunöz, a cancer patient who was trying to escape the fire, and his son Hilmi Coşkunöz, who had recently been discharged from the hospital where he was receiving treatment for an infection, and that all three lost their lives there.

In the video she sent to a social media platform at the time the fire started, Mine Elmas can be heard saying that the flames were approaching the area where the houses were located.

In the video, explaining that there were 3 children and 4 adults in the area besides herself, Elmas says, "There are helicopters, but they are not coming to the area where the houses are, or even to the side where we are; they are trying to extinguish the place where the fire first started. Despite so many people calling, no fire truck arrived, and we are currently trying to escape from where we are towards the mountain."

Yesterday, the fire that broke out in the forest, scrub, and grassland area in the Deliklikoy location of the Alaçatı neighborhood was intervened by 2 planes, 4 helicopters, 16 fire trucks, 3 water supply vehicles, 3 bulldozers, and ground crews belonging to the İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry, and the fire was extinguished after about 2.5 hours of work by the teams.

During the checks carried out by the teams in the area, the lifeless bodies of Mine Elmas, Mesut Coşkunöz, and Hilmi Coşkunöz were found, and 4 people were detained on charges of starting the fire.
