The first news report about Erdoğan has surfaced! Copy of the newspaper to be sold at auction

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is believed to have been the subject of his first press report in the January 17, 1972, issue of the newspaper Bizim Anadolu.

The copy of the newspaper containing the report in question will be put up for sale via auction tomorrow (January 19) at 3:00 PM at the Çengelköy Auction House.

Fifty-three years ago, Erdoğan and two of his schoolmates participated in an “Inter-High School Debate” competition and won first prize. Bizim Anadolu newspaper published a report on the debate competition accompanied by a photograph. The report was published under the headline “Istanbul Imam Hatip School emerges victorious in debate.” In the report, Erdoğan is quoted as saying, “We are looking for mothers and fathers who instill Turkish and Islamic upbringing in their children.”

According to a report by the pro-government newspaper Türkiye, auction coordinator Osman Nuri Boyacı stated, “It does not seem very likely that Erdoğan appeared in a news report before this one. Furthermore, the fact that Erdoğan, who was 18 years old in 1972, appeared in a report as a high school student can be considered a milestone in his life. We have not yet determined an opening price for the copy, but we would be happy if it sold for at least 250 thousand liras.”

Boyacı added, “I also discovered a detail in the newspaper; the editor-in-chief of Bizim Anadolu was Yaşar Okuyan, who later entered politics. Okuyan himself wrote the report. Whether the news of the Istanbul Imam Hatip School team, consisting of Tayyip Erdoğan, Seyfettin Esenlik, and Ali Kul, winning the first-place prize appeared in any other publication besides Bizim Anadolu could also be a subject of research.”
