The medal Kızılay promised to give turns out to be fake: It turns out hundreds of people have complained

Scandals continue at the Turkish Red Crescent (Türk Kızılay), which has been under fire following the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. 

According to a report by Ferhat Yaşar from Gazete Duvar, Remzi Türk, who has donated 37 units of blood to date, called the institution after learning that the medal he was given, which was described as 'gold', was fake. The official Remzi Türk spoke with told him that “spirituality is more important.” Türk stated that he would no longer donate blood to the Red Crescent and would only give blood for patients in emergency situations.

Remzi Türk reacted by asking, "Why are you deceiving the citizens?"

THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS

According to information obtained by 12punto; it has emerged that there are hundreds of complaints regarding the medals. According to information on the website Şikayetvar.com; 657 complaint records have been opened against the Red Crescent under the heading of medals. 

However, solutions could only be found for some of these complaints. 

A citizen named Atakan noted the following in his complaint on the site:

"Instead of giving a gold medal, the Red Crescent Association gave me a worthless piece of metal that looked like a medal and was gold-plated. It was delivered to me by the Southeast Anatolia Regional Blood Center as of yesterday. I showed it to a jeweler, and it turned out to be fake."

Another citizen named Ferhat noted the following in his complaint:

"I have been regularly donating to the Red Crescent for about 14 years. I made my 37th donation in September. The silver and bronze medals were given to me only because I called and asked for them.

Now I have earned the gold medal, but no one is calling or asking. I stated my complaint 3 months ago, they called me and said they would call me for the Red Crescent week in June, but they didn't call again. June is over, no one is calling or asking, I am constantly donating, but no one is giving or presenting a medal."

While the citizen also stated that he was contacted and that his medal would be given, many citizens complained that the Red Crescent does not return calls unless they apply themselves.

HOW DOES THE MEDAL SYSTEM WORK?

According to information on the Turkish Red Crescent's website; a bronze medal is given for the 10th donation, a silver medal for the 25th, a gold medal for the 35th, and a plaque for the 45th donation. 

According to the information on the site, medals and plaques are delivered by Blood Donation Centers as of June 14, World Blood Donor Day, in the year following the year they were earned.
