Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray, who decided not to play in the match against the Saudis who did not allow t-shirts featuring Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the 100th-anniversary choreography, issued a joint statement.
The executives of the two clubs, who stood up to the Saudi Arabian authorities for not allowing the Atatürk t-shirt and banner, decided not to take the field and to return to the country.

Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat announced that, in response, the name of Akasyalı Street, where the Saudi Arabian Consulate General in Istanbul is located, will be changed to that of Fahreddin Pasha, known as the "Desert Tiger," who fought against the British who wanted to capture Medina.

"Dear neighbors,
With a motion we will submit to our Municipal Council, we will give the name of the patriotic Desert Tiger Fahreddin Pasha, who successfully defended our holy lands of Medina for 2 years and 7 months under difficult conditions during the First World War, to Akasyalı Street, where the Saudi Arabian Consulate General in Istanbul is located.

Our street will also feature a special visual area for the founder of our Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and Fahreddin Pasha"
