The reason behind the fight between Kaya Sabancı and Vedat Aşçı has been revealed
Statements have emerged regarding the incident in which Kaya Sabancı was assaulted by Mandarin Hotel owner Vedat Aşçı and his bodyguards.
In his statement, Vedat Aşçı said, “Kaya Sabancı shouted in public, saying ‘I have cursed in the past, I am doing it now, and I will continue to do so,’ and assaulted me with profanities.
To protect myself, I pushed Kaya Sabancı. He was most likely intoxicated and fell face down on the ground,” he said.
Paramedic G.Ç., who intervened with Sabancı at the time of the incident, stated in their testimony that they reached the scene 20 minutes after the report and did not encounter any situation that would hinder them.
72-year-old Kaya Sabancı, who owns a house within the Mandarin Hotel and holiday complex located in Gölköy, Bodrum, was assaulted by the owner of the Mandarin Hotel, Vedat Aşçı, and his bodyguards. Kaya Sabancı was taken to the hospital after the initial intervention by medical teams who arrived at the scene.
"NO ONE EXHIBITED NEGATIVE BEHAVIOR"
Sabah reported the statements regarding the incident. Paramedic G.Ç., who took Kaya Sabancı to the hospital on the day of the incident, stated that it took them about 20 minutes to reach the scene after receiving the report, and that no staff kept them waiting at the building entrance.
G.Ç. said, “We went directly to the scene without waiting at the main hotel entrance. No one exhibited any negative behavior that would affect our arrival at the scene or our intervention with the patient.”
M.S. also stated in their testimony that they heard Sabancı say to Aşçı, “You didn’t invite me, but I came anyway out of spite,” and that when they turned to the side, they saw a scuffle and saw Sabancı fall to the ground.

"HE ASSAULTED ME BY CURSING"
Vedat Aşçı, in his statement, said that Kaya Sabancı had bought a house in the complex years ago, that his mental state was poor, and that his erratic behavior had been increasing due to excessive alcohol consumption.
Aşçı stated that all employees tried to help by being patient with him because they knew about Sabancı’s psychological state. Aşçı said, “I went to the invitation area alone.
I greeted familiar guests. I met M.S., one of the residents, and we started chatting briefly. While we were chatting, Kaya Sabancı came to me in a rage and, although he was actually invited, he started to assault me by grabbing my t-shirt, pulling me by my shoulder and arm, and using heavy profanities, saying ‘you didn’t invite me, but I came anyway out of spite.’
I told him to stay away from me and that he had constantly cursed at me in the past and that this should end. Upon this, Kaya Sabancı shouted in public, saying ‘I have cursed in the past, I am doing it now, and I will continue to do so,’ and continued to assault me with profanities, becoming even more enraged and starting to hit me.
There was a bruise and a dent on my forehead, and wounds on my arms and back. I pushed Kaya Sabancı to protect myself. He was most likely intoxicated and fell face down on the ground. I left the invitation area so that the events would not escalate further. I am filing a complaint against him,” he said.
WHAT HAPPENED?
A dispute occurred between 72-year-old businessman Kaya Sabancı and the owner of the Bodrum Mandarin Hotel, Vedat Aşçı, and his bodyguards. What happened at the Mandarin Hotel in Bodrum shook the business and social world. While an investigation into the incident has been launched, Kaya Sabancı’s lawyer, Ömer Reşat Kayran, stated that they have initiated the legal process.
"HE WAS ASSAULTED BY HIM PERSONALLY AND AT HIS INSTIGATION"
In his first statement after the incident, Kaya Sabancı’s lawyer, Ömer Reşat Kayhan, said, “Around 9 o’clock today, after Kaya Bey greeted Vedat Aşçı, the owner of the Mandarin Hotel and Residence, at the restaurant opening where he was a guest, he was assaulted by Vedat Aşçı personally and at his instigation.” “He is currently under observation at the Bodrum American Hospital. His examinations are being conducted. We are waiting for his reports. Following the incident, again under the direction of Vedat Aşçı, the ambulance was not allowed to enter, and the ambulance that did enter was not allowed to leave.”
“We have both footage and photos regarding this. We have initiated and are following the legal processes regarding Vedat Aşçı himself, his bodyguards, and his security personnel,” he said. Stating that he fell to the ground after the punch and that no one helped him for 3 minutes, Sabancı said, “Then a woman came to help me. I was already invited in the evening because it was an opening. If I hadn’t been invited, I wouldn’t have gone. If Vedat Bey had told the door, ‘Don’t let this man in,’ that would be a greater insult to me. But if he had given such an instruction, I would have turned around and left; I wouldn’t have gone inside.”
Kaya Sabancı said, “There is a crack in my orbital bone. There is a fracture in my cheekbone; I will have surgery in 2-3 days. I mean, I am 72 years old, are you hitting a 25-year-old young man? What is the need for this? I could have died there.”
RESPONSE FROM VEDAT AŞÇI’S HOTEL TO SABANCI’S STATEMENT
A written statement was made by the hotel regarding the incident between Kaya Sabancı and the owner of the Bodrum Mandarin Hotel, Vedat Aşçı, and his bodyguards. In the statement, Legal Counsel for Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum, Attorney Başak Orkun, included the following: “We regretfully feel the need to make this statement against the untrue, exaggerated, and baseless allegations made against us in the press by Kaya Sabancı and his representatives regarding the Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum hotel and its investor Vedat Aşcı.
"WE WERE SUBJECTED TO KAYA SABANCI’S VERBAL AND PHYSICAL ATTACK"
On June 20, 2024, at an event of the business called Hakkasan located within our hotel, Vedat Aşçı was subjected to a verbal and physical attack by Kaya Sabancı, and unfortunately, an unpleasant incident occurred between the parties that saddened us all.
Subsequently, the incident was referred to the judiciary by the parties. The allegations by Kaya Sabancı that the entry of medical teams to the facility was delayed/prevented by the client hotel and Vedat Aşcı are, like his other allegations, completely baseless and contrary to the truth.
As determined by camera recordings, the medical personnel entered and exited the facility smoothly and quickly. As the legal counsel for Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum, the necessary legal actions will be initiated against these untrue accusations targeting our client.
We inform the esteemed public that we are exercising our right of reply against these baseless allegations that mislead the press, but that the subsequent process will be followed legally as the events have been referred to judicial authorities.”
