The renovated Beyoğlu Cinema has opened

The Beyoğlu Cinema, renovated by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), has been opened.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu stated that Istanbul is a very colorful and irrepressible city.

Stating that they have a very important duty to take ownership of the "neglected" points of the city, İmamoğlu continued his words as follows:

"If its connection with the past weakens and it loses its memory, it truly loses a lot. We manage Istanbul with this love, respect, care, and meticulousness. We embrace the values and beauties that Istanbul has carried from the past to the present with respect and meticulousness, without making any distinctions. We never allow any beauty to disappear. We have no tolerance for that."

Expressing that they showed the same care, meticulousness, and respect at the opening of the Beyoğlu Cinema, İmamoğlu said, "The Aleppo Passage (Halep Pasajı), where the Beyoğlu Cinema is located, is a venue that has given life to and added value to not only Istiklal Avenue but also the theater art of our country. This passage, which carries traces of Muhsin Ertuğrul, Haldun Dormen, Ferhan Şensoy, and many other masters, gained a new function with the opening of the Beyoğlu Cinema in 1989."

Noting that this place is one of the first places that comes to mind when it comes to the art of cinema, İmamoğlu stated that the Beyoğlu Cinema, which features special examples from world cinema, turned into a very important center for Turkish cinema at a time when Turkish films could not find a chance to be screened.

Emphasizing that the Beyoğlu Cinema, which opened its curtains with a Turkish film, managed the process regarding works produced in these lands with sensitivity, İmamoğlu explained that director Nuri Bilge Ceylan's first feature film "The Small Town" (Kasaba) met with cinema lovers here for the first time.

Artist Türkan Şoray, who attended the opening, also said that everyone has a memory related to the Beyoğlu Cinema.

Stating that the Beyoğlu Cinema has contributed to the city's cultural and artistic life for years, Şoray wished for the cinema hall to return to its old days when long queues formed in front of it.

At the opening, director Metin Erksan's film "Time to Love" (Sevmek Zamanı) was screened.
