The healthcare system the AKP has boasted about for years is in this state: 12punto reporter reveals the reality

The healthcare system that the AKP government never tires of boasting about is at a standstill. In recent years, the healthcare system has reached the point of collapse due to overcrowding in state hospitals and emergency rooms, technical inadequacies, and a shortage of doctors. While long waiting times for outpatient appointments drive citizens toward private hospitals, this option remains inaccessible for low-income groups. A 12punto reporter captured those moments at the Sultan Abdülhamid Training and Research Hospital.

The healthcare system the AKP has boasted about for years is in this state: 12punto reporter reveals the reality

The AKP government has claimed since 2002 that it has implemented significant reforms in Turkey's healthcare system. Access to hospital services was facilitated and healthcare services were made more widespread, particularly through the General Health Insurance (GSS) and the "Health Transformation Program." However, serious problems have continued to persist in the healthcare system for over 20 years.

The AKP's healthcare policies have become the focus of criticism, especially in recent years, regarding sustainability, quality, and the working conditions of healthcare professionals.

State hospitals, and especially emergency rooms, are now facing serious overcrowding.

While it has become almost impossible to get an appointment at outpatient clinics, citizens are faced with waiting periods that last for months.

The number of people turning to private hospitals is increasing, but this situation is far from being an option for low-income segments.

12PUNTO REPORTER RECORDED IT

As hospital wards overflow with citizens seeking treatment every passing day, hospitals are becoming places where citizens cannot receive treatment due to both technical impossibilities and a shortage of doctors.

Most recently, a 12punto reporter recorded the collapsing healthcare system once again the other day at the Haydarpaşa Sultan Abdülhamid Training and Research Hospital, formerly known as GATA.

In the hospital environment where a large number of patients were waiting in line, it was observed that some patients had to wait standing up, while others were lying on the seats.

On the other hand, the lack of cleanliness and building maintenance in state hospitals also draws attention.
