They attacked while chanting 'Allahu Akbar': Statement from DTSO

DTSO stated that on Saturday, June 22, some groups carried out attacks on certain private businesses in the city under the guise of protesting Israel.

In the statement issued by DTSO, it was said, “We are following these increasingly frequent attacks in our city with great concern. During these simultaneous attacks on two different private businesses yesterday evening, the citizens present there were forced to flee in great fear and anxiety. As the DTSO Assembly, we have always defended our citizens' right to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and demonstration. We do not accept that some groups consciously use this right by entering workplaces in a way that causes fear and anxiety among the citizens present there.”

The statement included the following: “At a time when our city is experiencing its tourism season, the fact that our citizens are fleeing in fear and anxiety in the press causes great harm to our city. We would like to remind you that the people who run these private businesses, the employees, and the people sitting there are also our people. As DTSO, we condemn these attacks on private businesses that harm our city, and we invite the relevant authorities to take the necessary precautions to prevent these attacks from happening.”

"IT THREATENS THE PEACE AND SECURITY OF OUR SOCIETY"

In the statement made by the Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry Women Entrepreneurs Council regarding the attack, it was said, “Such attacks deeply shake the economic structure of our city and threaten the peace and security of our society. These attacks, to which employees inside the businesses are also subjected, serve no purpose. The similar attack on the Starbucks branch in the Kayapınar district shows that these acts of violence are not isolated incidents.

Supporting our women entrepreneurs, who are of great importance for the economic growth of Diyarbakır, and standing in solidarity with them is one of our most fundamental goals as the Women Entrepreneurs Council.

Ayşegül Damlar Kaya is a businesswoman who adds value to society by offering job opportunities to many people in the region and making significant contributions to the strengthening of the local economy with the business she founded. This attack is a hollow provocation aimed at the struggle we are waging to make women's entrepreneurship and labor visible.”

"WE WILL FOLLOW THIS TO THE END"

The statement included the following: “We strongly condemn this attack on the work motivation of business people and women entrepreneurs in Diyarbakır. We invite the authorities to be more sensitive to protect the environment of peace and security in our city. We demand that those who carried out the attack be identified as soon as possible and that the necessary procedures be carried out. We hope that such preventable attacks will not happen again.

As the Women Entrepreneurs Council, we would like to state that we stand by our Board Member Ayşegül Damlar Kaya and convey our best wishes to her and all her employees. We respectfully announce to the public that we will follow the results of the attack to the end.”

An attack had been carried out on the Burger King branch in the Sur district, which is managed by Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry Women Entrepreneurs Council Board Member Ayşegül Damlar Kaya.
