Alanya Municipality Police Department and Building Control Directorate teams, acting on a tip-off in the Saray neighborhood, discovered that the foundation beams in the basement of a 4-story building had been cut.
The ongoing work was halted, and the building was sealed.
Alanya Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik stated, "The life and property safety of our citizens is our priority. We will not allow any unauthorized or illegal construction."
It was determined that in the 4-story building in the Saray neighborhood, there was an attempt to move the building entrance landing, which is on the ground floor according to the existing construction permit, to the basement; for this purpose, an attempt was made to increase the insufficient floor height of the basement by deepening it towards the ground. During the work, it was found that the foundation beams upon which the building's columns rest were cut in a way that compromises earthquake safety, the reinforced concrete at the base of the columns was narrowed by cutting, the underside of some beams was excavated leaving them suspended, and the building's balconies were enlarged with iron construction materials.
Furthermore, it was determined that an additional floor was built on top of the building in violation of the construction permit, unauthorized renovation work was carried out on all floors of the building, and the sidewalk in front of the building was occupied and walled off.
The Alanya Municipality Building Control Directorate teams determined that the identified illegal work compromised the building's structural integrity and that the building was at risk of collapse.
The building in question was sealed by issuing a construction suspension report, the illegal construction work was stopped, and the building was secured with safety tape.
"WE WILL NOT ALLOW IT"
Making a statement on the matter, Alanya Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik said, “The life and property safety of our citizens is our priority. We will not allow any unauthorized or illegal construction. We will especially never permit construction attempts that compromise the safety of our citizens, and we will take all kinds of legal and administrative measures against those responsible for such acts.”
