In Bursa, journalist Yaman Kaya was recently subjected to an attack. The two assailants who ambushed Kaya were initially released under house arrest. Following public outcry, the prosecutor's office appealed the decision. In the subsequent hearing, the two suspects were arrested.
Yaman Kaya, Editor-in-Chief of the Bursa-based news website Başka Gazete, was targeted in an armed attack while walking to his car after work. Kaya fortunately escaped the attack without injury. New developments have occurred in the investigation regarding the incident.
In a statement on his social media account on November 17, Yaman Kaya wrote that the two suspects identified as having carried out the attack had been apprehended and referred to court with a request for arrest, but were released by the court on the condition of house arrest. The release of the suspects had drawn significant backlash from professional organizations and political parties. The prosecutor's office appealed the decision. In the hearing held today, the suspects, Zülküf B. and Sedat M., were arrested by the 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance. The court's decision stated that the suspects had fired a handgun at Yaman Kaya while he was inside his car. It was noted that they had been released with house arrest on November 16 and were re-arrested following the appeal by the case prosecutor.
