The earthquakes that occurred one after another in the Mediterranean and the Aegean caused concern. Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made a statement regarding the reason for such frequent earthquakes.
In a post on his X account, Görür stated the following:
"Friends, there have been many earthquakes (magnitude 4) recently to the NE of Santorini Island. In the Hellenic-Cyprus Arc subduction zone, as the African plate subducts beneath the Anatolian plate and is consumed, the Aegean part of the overriding plate is constantly under tension. This causes the earthquakes."
