They posted a 'Help Wanted' ad while workers were still buried
While search efforts for 9 workers continue following the disaster in İliç, Anagold opened a job posting today. The company, which had announced the suspension of its operations, used the phrase "a company culture that cares about people" in the advertisement.
According to a report by Osman Çaklı from Gazete Duvar: Following the mining disaster that occurred in İliç, Erzincan, search efforts are ongoing for 9 workers who, according to official statements, remain trapped under a pile of cyanide-leached soil. While work continues on the millions of cubic meters of leach pile, the Anagold company began accepting job applications for a total of 8 units, including areas such as quality control and sampling, approximately 8 hours ago. So far, 12 people have applied to the posting.
'A COMPANY CULTURE THAT CARES ABOUT PEOPLE'
Anagold Madencilik A.Ş., which opened the job posting on its LinkedIn account today, had previously announced with a statement following the collapse in the leach area that all operations had been suspended.
In the advertisement, which emphasized "a company culture that cares about people," the following statements were used: "We are looking for a Mine Geologist for our rapidly growing global gold mining and materials company, Anagold Madencilik. We will provide you with:
- A company culture that cares about people
- A career at one of the world's most privileged facilities in the gold mining sector
- Excellent learning experiences and opportunities for both personal and professional development
- Company-supported accommodation and other benefits/privileges
MINING OPERATIONS CONTINUED DESPITE WARNINGS
Villagers, environmentalists, and professional organizations, who have been waging a legal battle against the Çöpler Gold Mine since 2010, have been demanding that Anagold's activities in the region be halted.
In lawsuits filed by the TMMOB regarding the mine's applications to expand its boundaries, the organization had warned that a collapse could occur in the mine's leach area and that an environmental disaster could take place.
Despite the objections, it was revealed that a 3-fold capacity increase for the Çöpler Gold Mine was approved during the period when Murat Kurum was the Minister of Environment and Urbanization, and that Kurum had responded to a parliamentary question regarding the mine by saying, "An EIA decision was granted as a result of the necessary evaluations."
It was also understood that Ahmet Oğuz Öztürk, a board member of SRK Consulting, which provided the EIA report for the mine, was later appointed as an executive at the Anagold company.
