According to the statement made by the Ministry of Trade, two passengers of Uzbek and Greek nationality arriving from Moscow were placed under surveillance during a joint risk analysis and targeting study conducted by the Istanbul Airport Passenger Hall Customs Directorate teams and the Istanbul Airport Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate teams as part of the fight against smuggling.

THEY TRIED TO SMUGGLE THEM IN 4 SUITCASES

Following the landing of the plane, Customs Enforcement teams conducted physical surveillance of the suspicious individuals, intervening when the passengers arrived at the passenger hall with 4 suitcases and headed directly to the exit without stopping at the customs declaration point. The teams, checking the items against the possibility of smuggling, observed suspicious density in the suitcases belonging to the individuals after they were passed through an X-ray scanner. A detailed search initiated after the X-ray scan revealed that the suitcases were filled with animal tails.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

In the operation, 10,300 animal tails, determined to belong to foxes and having a market value of 1 million 236 thousand Turkish Lira, were seized. An investigation into the incident has been launched by the Gaziosmanpaşa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The seized fox tails were displayed at the Istanbul Airport Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Regional Directorate.
