Thief caught after getting lost in a book

In Rome, a person who broke into a house to commit theft was caught after getting lost in a book, following a report by the homeowner. It turned out the thief had become engrossed in a book about Homer's epic, the Iliad.

An interesting theft case occurred in Rome, the capital of Italy. A 38-year-old man who entered a house in Rome's Prati district for the purpose of theft was caught after he became absorbed in a book he found in the house. The thief began reading a book titled "Gli Dei Alle Sei" written by Giovanni Nucci, which he found in the homeowner's bedroom.

The 71-year-old homeowner noticed the thief who had entered his room and immediately reported the situation to the police. Police teams arrived at the house in a short time and caught the thief while he was reading the book.

In his statement to the police, the suspect denied the theft charges, saying, "I had an appointment and went out to the apartment terrace to watch the view while waiting. However, I fell onto the veranda below. I thought it was a hostel. While I was trying to get over the shock, I saw a book and started reading it. The book impressed me a lot."

However, designer clothes determined to have been stolen from elsewhere were found in the thief's bag. The incident took place on August 20 and was featured in the Italian press under the headline "The Intellectual Thief."
