Third bread price hike in Diyarbakır, where residents had been queuing for cheap rice!
Bread prices in Diyarbakır have been raised for the third time before the end of the year. The price of bread, which was 12 TL on January 22, 2024, has risen to 20 TL with the latest hike. Sales at the new price began as of this morning. Just one day before the hike, a queue for cheap rice had formed in Diyarbakır, with residents waiting in line in -5 degree cold while burning fires to stay warm.
In Diyarbakır, bread has received its third price hike before the end of the year, following two previous increases since January. The price of bread, which was 12 TL on January 22, was first raised to 15 TL, and then to 18 TL in September.
Rising input costs were cited as the reason for the hike. Alican Ededinoğlu, President of the Diyarbakır Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen, confirmed the news of the hike, stating, "Sales at the new price have begun as of today."
With the new prices in Diyarbakır, the price of simit and poğaça has risen to 12 liras, while the price of the local staple, yağlı ekmek, has been increased to 25 liras.

CHEAP RICE QUEUE IN -5 DEGREE COLD
The fact that the hike came immediately after images from Diyarbakır were shared with the public yesterday drew further attention.
In Yenişehir, those wishing to purchase 'cheap' food formed long queues in front of the Turkish Grain Board (TMO). Citizens waiting in line in minus 5-degree weather lit fires to keep warm.
