Those who consume more water will pay higher bills: New regulation on the way

With a regulation published in the Official Gazette by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the "polluter pays" system, which was previously planned to enter into force on December 31, 2024, has been postponed to December 31, 2026.

With this system:

Bills will rise as usage of water and waste services increases.

The Environmental Cleaning Tax, solid waste collection fee, and waste disposal fee will be collected as a single item.

Those who consume more water and generate more waste will pay a higher fee.

The primary goal of this regulation will be to prevent water waste and reduce environmental damage.

TAYED PRESIDENT ÖNER: MUNICIPALITIES WILL BE ABLE TO USE THIS REVENUE ONLY FOR WASTE AND WATER SERVICES

Ali Rıza Öner, President of the Waste Management and Waste-to-Energy Producers Association (TAYED), shared the details of the changes to be made to water bills.

Öner stated that municipalities will be able to use the revenue obtained within this scope only for water and waste services. He also expressed that these fees will be determined by Municipal Councils and that the additional fee will rise as the water bill increases.
