Thousands of euros in grants to the Tug-of-War Federation
The European Union Education and Youth Programmes Centre (National Agency) has awarded a grant of 15,710 euros (587,000 TL) to the Tug-of-War Federation, which is known for its proximity to the government.
European Union funds continue to pour into foundations, associations, and federations close to the AKP.
As reported by Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün, the National Agency announced that it had provided grants to a total of 20 organizations following the evaluation of projects carried out under the name "Staff Mobility in the Field of Sport." The Tug-of-War Federation, known for its ties to the government, was among these organizations and received a grant of 15,710 euros. This budget allocated to the Mersin-based federation was provided for the "Overcoming Obstacles Together" project and was calculated as 587,000 TL in Turkish Lira.
Following pilot applications launched in 2003, the National Agency expanded its activities in 2004 by becoming a full member of the EU Education and Youth Programmes. However, the distribution of grants to foundations and associations close to the government has been a constant subject of debate over the years.
Some of the amounts received by organizations that obtained grants from the National Agency in the 2021-2024 period are as follows:
TÜGVA: 711,212 euros
TÜRGEV: 420,237 euros
Diyanet Foundation: 45,870 euros
Bülbülzade Association: 161,850 euros
