Thunderstorms expected in Istanbul following sweltering heat

Following days of sweltering heat and high humidity in Istanbul, rain is expected on Sunday. According to the latest forecasts from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM), local downpours and thunderstorms are expected across the city.

In Istanbul, which has been experiencing some of the most stifling days of the summer, humidity levels exceeding 95 percent, particularly during the night, have caused temperatures to feel even higher. While the air temperature in the city is expected to reach 33 degrees today, it is estimated to hover around 30 degrees on Sunday.

The precipitation is not expected to be limited to Istanbul alone. Forecasts indicate that local downpours and thunderstorms will also affect the eastern part of the Marmara region, parts of Thrace, and the Black Sea coastline.

RAIN TO BRING BRIEF COOLING

According to the meteorological assessment, local rainfall is expected on Sunday in the eastern Marmara region, the Taurus Mountains area of the Mediterranean, the Western and Eastern Black Sea regions, the coasts of the Central Black Sea, the northeast of Eastern Anatolia, and the north of Kırklareli. In other regions, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy and clear.

It was reported that air temperatures will remain above seasonal norms in the southern parts and around normal levels elsewhere. The wind is expected to blow generally from northern directions, light to occasionally moderate, and strong at speeds of 40-60 kilometers in the west of Marmara and the North Aegean coasts.
