TİP İstanbul MP Kadıgil reacts to 'mining law': The people have no state

Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Istanbul MP Sera Kadıgil said, "We are currently a people without a state. Who has a state in this country? In this country, there is a state for murderers of women. In this country, there is a state for hotel bosses. In this country, there is a state for mining companies. In this country, there is a state for private hospital owners. There is a state for sects and religious communities. Who is it that has no state in this country? It is us. The people, the workers, the women, the children, the olive trees, the rivers, the forests—the true owners of this country. But we do not have a state."

"THEY WILL GIVE TWO PERCENT TO THE STATE"

Reminding that women have been on a hunger strike in front of the Parliament gates for three days, Kadıgil said, "Right now, Necla, the headwoman of İkizköy, is on a hunger strike at 60 years old. Aunt Ayşe is on a hunger strike at 63. Mehmet from Fatsa is on a hunger strike. These people have been keeping watch in a park right next to the Parliament in Ankara for 20 days, and for the last three days, they have stopped eating and drinking. The reason for this is that the lives of these people are about to be ended this evening by the AKP deputies who are raising and lowering their hands here. The reason for these people's existence is that the olive trees they have tended for years are being uprooted to make way for mining companies."

Stating that a law is being introduced that will "plunder" everywhere without the need for any court decision or Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report, Kadıgil said, "So, what will be the state's profit from this law? They will give two or three percent of an underground asset to the state—and I say that assuming the calculation belongs to them. Where will the rest go? The rest will go to the mining companies. It will go to domestic and foreign collaborations, and as I said, I am truly ashamed that AKP deputies have signed this law. I swear I am ashamed of the deputy badge on their lapels."

"THEY CONTINUE TO DEFEND IT WITHOUT SHAME"

Kadıgil noted the following:

"There is a company established by Limak Holding and İC Enerji. Its name is YK Enerji. This YK Enerji submitted a petition to the Privatization Administration Department. They are complaining in this petition, signed by Birol Ergüven and Murat Bayer. It is an official petition. What do they say in this petition? They say, 'The law on the protection of olive trees, the stay-of-execution decisions given as a result of administrative judicial processes, the oversight mechanisms on expropriation procedures, and environmental protection provisions make our work difficult.' Who says this? Limak says it. Who says this? İC Enerji says it. What do those who govern this country do upon this? They take this proposal in front of those companies they bow down to. AKP deputies sign it. While the villagers outside are opposing this, having risked hunger and laid their bodies on the line, the deputies here continue to defend these companies without shame. They continue to burn and destroy this country for something that does not belong to them, but to mining companies. I am appealing to everyone's conscience here. They are sitting in front of the Parliament gate. Do you know they have only one wish? They are waiting for Numan Kurtulmuş or any AKP official who has a hand in this bloody law, this occupation law, to bother to come outside, consider them human, and speak to them. We cannot find a single AKP member who does this. Because Mr. Numan is very busy. The other AKP members are very busy. All the deputies of the People's Alliance are currently very busy serving companies. That is why they cannot deal with those who have come from the village."

BAŞ MET WITH KURTULMUŞ REGARDING THE COMMISSION

Stating that TİP Chairman Erkan Baş met with Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş today, Kadıgil said, "The primary nature of this meeting was, of course, the situation of our imprisoned Hatay MP Can Atalay, and we also held discussions regarding the commission. However, since we have not yet received clear information on exactly how it will be, what kind of commission it will be, how it will convene, or how decisions will be made, we find it too early to announce our approach on this matter. As a rule, we have been saying from the beginning that the place to resolve this is the Parliament. We will continue to say this."

"WE ARE CURRENTLY A PEOPLE WITHOUT A STATE"

Saying, "We are living in a fire caused by a palace regime, and as long as we do not take that gasoline canister out of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's hand, these fires surrounding us will continue," Kadıgil noted the following:

"We currently have only one concern. The entire picture I have described has only one name: statelessness. We are currently a people without a state. Who has a state in this country? The murderers of women have a state in this country. Hotel bosses have a state in this country. Mining companies have a state in this country. Private hospital owners have a state in this country. Cults and religious communities have a state in this country. Who is it that has no state in this country? It is us. The people, the workers, the women, the children, the olive trees, the rivers, the forests—the true owners of this country. But we do not have a state. Because the palace regime took this state and gave it to corporations. Therefore, we now have only one duty: to rescue our state from those holding the gasoline canister and to put an end to this rotten regime. And the only way to do this, dear friends, is for some to stop running away from the ballot box and, at the first opportunity, at the very first step, to go to an early election and get rid of this regime."
