TKH calls on youth to join the struggle for secularism!

The Communist Movement of Turkey (TKH) has issued a call with the slogan 'Secularism is Freedom!', inviting young people to join the fight against reactionism.

The statement is as follows:

"TO OUR FELLOW STUDENTS:

STRENGTHEN THE CALL FOR 'SECULARISM IS FREEDOM!'

Young friend!

Whether you are in high school, university, or at work, it does not matter. Listen to our call!

If you are tired of the reactionism that surrounds everything, of the religious sects and communities, and of the interference in our lives, and if you think it is time to put a stop to this trend, listen to our call!

Imams are entering our schools. As our curricula move away from scientific principles, education is becoming more reactionary every day. The political power is destroying universities step by step. Educational institutions, which should create an environment for discussion and where we should learn about life, have lost their meaning because a homogenizing system that cannot tolerate different voices has also permeated our schools.

In the cities where we come to build our future, we are forced into dormitories run by religious sects and communities. We are governed by a power that dictates to women and young people how they should live every day. The system, which promises us so-called freedoms, makes us feel more imprisoned every day. Every moment we feel helpless in the face of all this feeds the thought of running away.

We are not helpless!

We are the youth. We are the ones who look forward, who think, who discuss, and who can change things.

Do not think, 'What can I do alone?'

You are not alone!

Every problem we have mentioned, and those we haven't, is as much your problem as it is the country's. Leaving our country, which they have made unlivable for us, cannot be the solution. We call on you to object to the youth that the government and the order want to transform us into.

We are aware that there is no room for equality, secularism, freedom, science, and the new in this order. In the face of this situation, we will neither become like them nor run away. We call on you to give us strength, to light a torch against reactionism, and to raise the slogan 'Secularism is Freedom!'.

We can only build the future we want ourselves. The place that years of silence and not standing against this order has brought us is darkness!

Do not fear, do not cower, do not submit! We have a future to win, not opportunities to lose.

Give us strength, let us make the slogan 'Secularism is Freedom!' heard from every corner of the country.

We are the majority; we are not condemned to a handful of minorities.

We call on you to win our future by reviving the progressive heritage of our country!

Let us win today, tomorrow, and the country together! We call on all our fellow students to make the 'Secularism is freedom' call heard in schools, lecture halls, and on the streets, and to join the struggle for secularism."
