TKP General Secretary Okuyan: '2026 will be a year of deep reckonings'
Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) General Secretary Kemal Okuyan made significant statements regarding the national and global agenda during a program he attended. Describing the current year, 2026, as 'a year of deep reckonings,' Okuyan made striking remarks.
Okuyan answered questions from journalist Fethi Yılmaz on theYazı-Yorum program broadcast on Radio Sputnik.
Discussing opposition movements in Venezuela and Iran, the support of imperialist countries for Venezuela'spro-US opposition leader Machado and Reza Pahlavi, the son of the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was overthrown in 1979, as well aspro-NATO and pro-EU sentiments in Turkey,Okuyan stated that those fighting for a betterworld must distance themselves from imperialist interventions.pointed out that it must be:
“Regardless of which countryyou live in, that country's egalitarianand independent foryou have the right to struggle forit, but this is a responsibility belonging to the peopleof that country. It is realizedthrough the internal dynamics of that country. This is achange directed toward the future. For this to be a development,a benefit, itit should not be retroactive. In Iran, supporters of the Shah poured into the streetswith whose support? With the financial and political support of the US.
This is very clear: those who struggle for a better order must separate themselves from the imperialistpowers that darken the worldand distinguish themselves.must do so. Anyone who cannot do this serves imperialism either openly or indirectly. 'The regime in Iran is an enemy of women, theregime in Iransuppressesfreedoms. What should we do? Should we say, the US is already attacking, let us take advantage of the opportunities created by this attack, or let us take money directly; let us take weapons directlyfreedom islet usattain ourfreedom.' First of all, thereis no such freedom. Imperialism, in anypart of the world, has brought freedom or justiceregarding itspastit has no suchrecord.'
'If you are a revolutionary, you do not assistimperialist aggression'
Stating that the regionwhere Turkey is located is witnessing this, Okuyan noted that under occupation orinterventionin a country, the duty of revolutionaries is to take an anti-imperialiststance. Okuyan said the following:“In our
geography, those who do notexperiencethis directly or indirectly is there a country left? Including Turkey. We, too, have suffered from coups and massacres. We have suffered from the killing of progressives, revolutionaries, and patriots. Everyone lived in a different way in this geography.

If you live in acountry and you are engaged in an effort to make thatcountry morebeautiful and better, if you are a revolutionary, one of your obligations is to anchor your stance within an anti-imperialist frameworkand not be a part of anything that could, in one way or another, assist imperialistaggression.is not to be a part of it. Whether you call it a color revolution or a funded revolution, you must stay away from these.
Staying away from these is not somethingthat can be donein a day. This is aprocess. You take your stance before events erupt, you cut your ownumbilicalcord, and independenceyou adopt a stance. When your country isunder the threat of occupation orintervention, you do what is necessary. Then, at that time, you have the right to struggle in that country.Right now, in Iran and Venezuela, asWhat we are seeing is shameful. Especially the state of Machado; from thousands of kilometers away, when I look at it as a human being,I feel ashamed. How can a person be so dishonorable, how can they be so alienated from their owncountry? They say, 'I will open everything to multinational monopolies, to the US,investors will come.' What kind of dishonor is this? Therefore, people are unhappy, they are rising up.nor can we evaluate theseprocesses with a romanticismderived from the product. There is an imperialistintervention, plain and simple.”
‘Since the 1980s, a very powerfulcounter-revolutionaryprocess has beenwe are experiencing'
To Fethi Yılmaz's, proposition that the end of ideologies had arrived following the collapse of the Soviet Union,in response to thequestion, 'Isn't what is happening in America right now, what is happening on the American continent, an ideological war?' Okuyan gave the following response:
'The idea that ideologies are deadThe thesis was an ideological attack by imperialism. In other words, it was an ideological attack itself, and it became clear that this was not the case. However, what happened was this: in the end, in bourgeois ideology or in the development of this imperialist systemthe only or the most important thing that challenged that ideological hegemony, socialism, has regressed in theworld. Let us accept this. Infact, since the 1980s, we have been experiencing a very powerfulcounter-revolutionaryprocess.we are experiencing. Thisincludes September 12, and let's even go back to the 70s. The coup against Allende in Chile is also a partofit.
This is a process, therefore, but ideologies have not ended. Why don't they end? Because in the world, injustices are continuing, inequalities are continuing, and as long as humankind lives, there is a search against these in question. There is a very deep-rooted anti-American tradition in Latin America. In fact, the Spanish ccolonialismThe struggle againstis, of course, extremely important, but when we look at the reality of the 20th centurycenturyreality, we see a very serious anti-USaccumulation. This accumulation, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, was somewhatfaced the problem oflack of foresight. That iswhy ups anddowns arebeing experienced in Latin America. Because there is noconsistent program. For example, because the left cannot completely break away from the capitalist economy, itgets involved in corruption. There is a collectivedecay that also pollutes the left.” “2026 will be a year of deep reckon
ing”“This aggression by the US is, of course,
a reflection of its decline.” very dangerous. It is necessary to resist thisbut at the same time, it will also instill an awakening and a sense of direction in Latin America. Because in Latin America, there is flour, there is sugar. In other words, to make the halvathere is very serious material, there is accumulation, there is a combative people. For all of Latin America'scountries, thisis valid. There is a problem ofdirection. I think Trump will also address that problem of direction will solve. Because as Trump radicalizesor as US imperialism radicalizes, the working peoples will alsotend toward radicalization. There are already signs of this.
Previously, reconciliaMany political movements that saythey are for change have, since the recent Venezuelaattack, started to reflect and discuss the need to act around a more militant program. These are new beginnings, and the best part is that people within the USare rising up. This should also be taken seriously. LeftAnd we see the U.S., which tries to lecture everyone left and right, in thisstate. Everywhereis in a state of decay.Homelessness on one hand, the energy crisis on another, police brutality on another, injustice on another. They have a president who says, 'I do not recognize the law; my morality determines my borders.' I do not think humanity will accept this. Especially starting with Latin America, and beyond. That is why the coming period, I always say this, 2026 will be a year of very deep reckonings.”
‘The din the world There is no social order in Iran. If you don't say this, you serve the US'TKP General Secretary Okuyan,
In his response to the question of how he evaluates the protests on the streets of Iran, he stated that those raising their voices against poverty in Iran must take a stance against imperialism, noting that this requires a difficult struggle. In his response to the question of how he evaluates the protests on the streets of Iran, he stated that those raising their voices against poverty in Iran must take a stance against imperialism, noting that this requires a difficult struggle. strugglenoting that this requires a difficult strugglerequires a difficult strugglehe underlined: “Let's speak
very clearly. In the worldof my ideals, there is no social order like the one currently in Iran.Somepeople also say thissaidwhen you do, they ask, 'Aren't you serving the US, imperialism?' If you don'tsay this, you are serving the US. For the US to have a monopoly on the project of a betterorder in Irancould there be anything more disastrous than that? Animperialist power that has brought darknessto the entire worldwe are talking about three.
There is poverty in Iran. This is not something that can beexplained solely by U.S. aggression. There are poor people, there are very rich people, there is an establishedsystem, but the driving force of change in Iranis a labor movement that targetsthis inequality and injustice.based on the labor movement.Yes, from time to time in Iran, very important strikes occur. But they do not take the initiative or become a driving force.
We are constantly stuck in this dilemma: an externalintervention, the threat coming from Israel and the US, and those who complain about authoritarianism while using this threat as a covercertain laborcertain segments. A part of theseis agent-provocateurin nature, and a partis middle-classliberalism; there are those who dream of Western-oriented, color revolutions like we have here. This is a very dangerous dilemma, but one must know this: If you raise your voice against poverty in Iran, yIf you are going to bring it out, first you must cut your ties with imperialism and take a stand against imperialist aggression, you have to be a part of that struggle. These processes,it is not very easy to fulfill two tasks at the same time, but you will find a way. There is no easy strugglein the world.

'There can be no greater shame than serving imperialism'
"If I were an Iranian citizen living in Iran, I would think this. 'How can I prevent the US and Israel from doing this to this country, to my country, orI live in the hurling of threats against the countryI will help or contribute, how do Istruggle and at thesame time, into thisstruggle, this government's how the countryhow they impoverished the country and howthey pushed itintoa difficultsituation, providing content that demonstrates this.am I?' I wouldthink about it, I would search for waysfor it, but I would never, ever fall into the position of a traitor to my country.Iwould find a way to avoid that. Because there can be no greater shame than this. There can be no greater shame than serving imperialism, a kiChina.
These are difficult issues, but if we approach itby saying, 'Iran is being threatened, therefore we cannot question the attacks on society in Iran,' the moment you say that, you serve the US; it is that simple. There is such a thing as dialectics; one must address events by takingall processes into account, but of course, we will have priorities. Especially when there is a direct mIn the event of an intervention, what needs to bedone is clear. That is torepel the intervention. You give everything you have to it. You are facing a phenomenon that threatens your homeland, and we are reaching the threshold of this in Iran, or we are experiencing its practice from time to time. This is a very sensitive matter, but as I said, I havenever said that in Iran todaybecause I have never been irresponsible enough to underestimate the unhappinessor the experiences of those harmed by the social order.'
'He wants to gain the support of the US and its allieswho also want to change the politicalbalance in Turkey'Fethi Yılmaz noted that in an article written for Foreign Affairs magazine, the CHP's presidential candidate, imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, complained about the government to NATO, Europe, and the West, and that CHP Chairman
Fethi Yılmaz noted that in an article written for Foreign Affairs magazine, the CHP's presidential candidate, imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, complained about the government to NATO, Europe, and the West, and that CHP Chairman Stating that Özgür Özel has similardiscussions, in response to the question, "While there is a renewed insistence on NATO or the European Union within the ruling wing, how do you evaluate the Atlanticist racebetween the governmentand the main opposition?", Okuyan stated that this situation is not new and said the following:“
Those who want to change the political balances in Turkey, with the support of the US or the US'sallieswants to receive it. In fact, Erdoğan's story also beganlike this. Didn't it? It started with a visit to the US. Turkey's reality. Where does this reality stemfrom? It stemsfrom the social system in Turkey and Turkey's economic structure. It does not stem from 'these people trust the US a lot, they love it very much'.ing. The system in Turkey and the political forces that support the continuation of this system have turned their faces there. But I must also say this: In Turkey, without questioning this system, the social system, and Turkey's socioeconomic structQuestioning relations with the US without questioning thesystem is, in my opinion, hypocrisy and inconsistency. You claim to be struggling against the governmentand trying to create an alternative. Yousay you are working on this. There is a serious anti-US sentiment in this society.is opposition. I mean, even if it is not systematic, there is a sentiment. A hundredyearsago we fought a war ofindependence.
Flirting withimperialism is not a reasonable thing. At least for certain segments of society. You are an opposition party, a little be careful. We also know yourprogram, you are pro-NATO, but do you notshow any care at all? İmamoğlu did something else: he heaped praise on Machado. I mean, he hasadvisors. Now, even in prison, while holding the pen, thinking about the countryisneeds to act by considering.
Is such a thing possible? This is truly our shame. I'll skip their ideologies, class preferences, and the CHP's program, butwhy are they so careless? I previously brought up the fact that the Republican People's Party prepared a reportregarding Iranto theagenda.and it became a major topic. We also met with Utku ÇakırÖzer himself.Hesaid, 'This is not mypersonal report,' but it makes no difference. Why are they so careless? Why do they treat us, and the anti-imperialist accumulation in this country, with suchdo they underestimate it? It istruly unbelievable. That is why it has two dimensions. The Republican People's Party is alreadyproceeding as a subject of this system it has settled into, but they are very careless. This is truly a shame for our country,to be noteddown.shouldcollapse.”
