Tom Barrack answers the Epstein question
U.S. Ambassador to Ankara Tom Barrack has made statements regarding his communication with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which lasted until 2016. Barrack stated that his contact with Epstein was limited and denied allegations that he introduced him to others.
U.S. Ambassador to Ankara Tom Barrack has made statements following the release of new documents by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) indicating that he was in communication with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein between 2008 and 2016. Barrack stated that his relationship with Epstein was limited and that they were only in contact within the framework of business relations.
At an event he attended in New York, Barrack responded to a question from journalist Jessica Le Masurier regarding the documents, which asked, "Why did you introduce Epstein to Peter Thiel and Vitaly Churkin?" Barrack replied: "I did not introduce him to those people. However, as businesspeople in the 1980s, we were all in contact with Jeffrey Epstein in some way. He was a very influential figure." Barrack also touched upon the perception that Epstein's power and connections were obtained through his ties with Israel.
"EPSTEIN'S POWER CAME FROM HIS TIES TO ISRAEL"
Ambassador Barrack said that a common perception at the time regarding the source of Epstein's international relations was that his power was derived from the connections he established with Israel. "Most of us thought he derived his power and relationships through his ties to Israel. This was a topic discussed in the background," Barrack said.
BARRACK CLAIMS HE WAS UNAWARE OF THE 2015 DOCUMENTS
Barrack argued that his contacts with Epstein were limited until 2015 and stated that he was unaware of the documents from that period. Barrack expressed that their communications were strictly for business purposes, such as Epstein requesting information about the stock market or sending emails to gain access to the president. "By communication, I mean him sending me emails requesting access to the president or asking for information for his stock market ventures. There was nothing beyond that," he added.
Ambassador Barrack left questions regarding his meetings with Epstein and introductions to other individuals unanswered. Furthermore, he did not deny the accuracy of some of the allegations directed at him. Barrack only described his relationship with Epstein as limited.
