Trade Minister Bolat compares citizens planning a boycott to a 'rabid minority': 'A very good answer'

Citizens began calling for a boycott during the ongoing process marked by mass protests following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

The call for the 'April 2 Consumption Boycott' also received support from the CHP.

Following the successive calls, the government front took action, first announcing that an ex officio investigation had been launched into those calling for the boycott.

Immediately afterward, ministers in the AKP cabinet began sharing statements protesting the boycott.

Trade Minister Bolat, who made a similar statement, did not stop there and connected to the live broadcasts of many television channels.

Bolat drew backlash for his use of the term 'rabid minority' in one of these broadcasts.

TRADE MINISTER TO THOSE BOYCOTTING: 'RABID MINORITY'

Ömer Bolat used the term "rabid minority" for those participating in the "boycott" during a live broadcast he attended on CNN Türk. 

Trade Minister Ömer Bolat said, "If they have shopping to do, let them move it to April 2. Let us contribute to the country's economy. We would be giving a very good answer to the rabid minority trying to harm the Turkish economy."
